THE skills of an international rising star in the world of gymnastics held youngsters at a Trowbridge school transfixed this week.
British gymnast James McGranaghan, 22, was at The John of Gaunt School as part of the national Super Schools project.
Head of PE Andy Slade said: "The performance he gave was a real wow. It was a dazzling display and he really captured their attention."
The 650 children, from Years 7, 8 and 9, were set four fitness tests around sit-ups, star jumps, press-ups and squat thrusts, and it is hoped they raised about £1,000 for the school.
The youngsters got sponsorship for the test and the money will be split between the school, for new sports equipment, and the Super Schools programme.
After the pupils showed what they were made of they were treated to a display of gymnastics including a finale where McGranaghan leapt over about eight youngsters and headteacher Andy Packer.
The aim of Super Schools is to bring stars of the sporting world into schools both to give the youngsters an extra taste of a particular sport and inspire them to take an interest and to raise funds for the school.
