Abertillery is a former coal-mining town situated in the South Wales Valleys within the county borough of Blaenau Gwent which, together with the surrounding villages, has a population of about 20,000.
It is one of the major towns of the of Blaenau Gwent and has developed steadily to become a modern town with good links across Wales. It can be reached via the A467, which connects directly with the M4- the crucial link to London- and the Heads of the Valleys trunk road for West Wales and the Midlands.
