Abercynon

Abercynon lies in the Cynon Valley and changed significantly during the industrial revolution. The town is linked to Cardiff and Merthyr by train. Significant buildings in the town include the War Memorial, Workingmen's Hall where the famous political leader Kier Hardie addressed miners' in 1906.

The building has since been demolished. St Donat's Church is a prominent feature in Abercynon and unusual because it is aligned North to South instead of East to West. Margaret Street is still the main shopping street, developed on farmland as the town expanded with the development of the coal industry in the 1980s.
