We sat down recently and watched a video version of our old family cine films; and a couple of times I caught a glimpse of a very young me, just looking a bitwell in a world of my own.
I smiled as I recalled the frequent times that I was asked, Roger, what are you day dreaming about now?
In fact, if we 're honest, my beloved (who I frequently encourage by telling her that she is the best wife I ever had ) still seems to get a little agitated when I go off into one of my little field trips of the imagination. But, as I try to explain, I think it 's good to have dreams and a healthy imagination.
But in the safety of your garden a good imagination and a few dreams can make an amazing difference, and mid winter is a very good time to use them.
The good thing about dreams is that they don t cost anything; you don 't have to follow that rainbow, but it is still good fun to consider it.
Why don 't we take another look, or two, at your garden, Dr Roger 's way!
I guess this is garden design at its most basic. When I talk with customers about how they could improve their garden, I am often trying to get them to use their imagination, to talk about what they enjoy in life and what they would love in their garden - if money were no object.
Gradually their expectation levels start to lift, and they realise that their garden could be something special, and unique to them.
So why not grab a few sheets of paper and a pencil, and start by closing your eyes - try not to nod off- and picture your idyllic out door place.
(This may bring back memories of summer walks, a picnic, maybe holidays, or a picture you have seen or imagined) + Now write down or draw what you see, hear and smell, you may notice how this place makes you feel write that down as well.
+ Now think about a few extra details that you could add, maybe a drink (a bar?), some music?, go on get a bit carried away - you re daydreaming!
+ Now try another dream location, maybe completely different from the last one, and go through the same procedure on another sheet of paper. Keep on doodling as long as you want, but keep those pieces of paper.
Now, if you have had any success with your daydreaming you should have: 1. Enjoyed a very relaxing time, (for no extra charge!) 2. And have in your possession some ideas that maybe you can introduce into your garden Don 't forget if you have any gardening questions or photos/stories from your garden, please let us know at the contact details shown.
