ITS football team are up at the top of the Premier League, Chelsea also takes some stopping as the best place to stay in the world’s greatest city.

And the snug and friendly myhotel Chelsea, within walking distance of some of the capital city’s most sought out attractions, shops, restaurants and bars, is one of its finest.

It’s a luxury hotel but one which won’t break the bank.

So close to Sloane Square and South Kensington Tube stations, it’s just around the corner from the globally famous and extraordinary Victoria & Albert Museum, the vast Cromwell Road premises containing 145 galleries, and the Natural History Museum next door with its roaring T-Rex, just one of the huge draws.

Fashonistas and foodies are also in for a treat with Knightsbridge just down the road.

It is home to two of Britain’s most famous department stores in the glitzy Harrods (check out the spectacular food hall and its restaurants if you’ve never been) and the perennially trendy Harvey Nichols, with other cool boutiques along Sloane Square and the Brompton Road.

To the south of the hotel there’s the iconic King’s Road, inexorably linked to its famous past as the fashion centres of the Swinging Sixties and of punk.

Today it has some great puns and restaurants, as the areas in and around the Fulham Road which runs parallel to it.

And if you are in the neighbourhood, why not take a stroll down the illustrious Cheyne (pronounced Chay-nee) Walk along Chelsea’s riverside?

Notable former residents included JMW Turner, David Lloyd George, Mick Jagger, George Best and Jack Nicholson.

After you’ve enjoyed your day sightseeing, shopping and dining, you’ve got your airy and glamorous room at the myhotel Chelsea to come back to with its comforts and especially designed furniture.

My wife and I stayed in one of the gloriously spacious junior suites and I can’t recommend the hotel’s breakfast, both cooked and continental, highly enough with the breakfast in bed option a particular indulgence.

If you’d rather eat and have a drink at the hotel, there’s Italian cuisine with a Sardinian accent at Pellicano (www.pellicanorestaurant.co.uk) or Tanya's (www.tanyascafe.com), a raw food restaurant and superfood cocktail bar.

The hotel has recently opened a new 210th room inspired by Sofie Rockland, brains behind luxury lifestyle company 210th (www.210th.com). The room is themed to match the brand.
