Metalcore rockers While She Sleeps recently celebrated their tenth anniversary as a band by becoming totally independent. The band not only self-funded their latest album You Are We with the help of their fans through a PledgeMusic campaign, but also converted an empty warehouse in the heart of their native Sheffield into their own multi-purpose studio. It’s not the first time the band have had their own space, 2010’s debut EP ‘The North Stands For Nothing’ was recorded at a home studio called The Barn.

The band are also out on tour with You Are We, Andy Howells recently put questions to drummer, Adam “Sav” Savage from the band.

How did you first start out in music?

We started out being in bands from school at an early age. Sean, Mat and myself were in bands together, then we formed Sleeps. Aaran and Loz joined after and we've been the same since.

What has inspired you most on your musical journey?

We take influence from a lot of things, mainly our experiences in life that we've been through and seen. We all listen to a lot of different music so the end inspiration with music is quite varied. We grew up listening and playing punk, so that’s a strong influence in the sound of Sleeps.

Can you give us some background about your latest release?

We've been writing You Are We for quite a while now. Sean started off writing riffs in the back of the tour bus a while ago. Then we took it into practice and started writing structures and lyrics. We've all been through quite a bit since Brainwashed (While She Sleeps 2015 album) was released, we worked together and stayed strong. You Are We is the reflection of journey together.

You’re touring shortly are you looking forward to that?

Yeah we love touring. Its pretty much the best thing about being in a band apart from recording an album. We take a lot of time to meet the fans and chill as they are the main reason we can do this.

What can people expect from your forthcoming Bristol gig?

We've worked hard on this new set to make it more of an experience. We always put 110% into every show so Bristol will be no different. Organised chaos.(Laughs)

What are you enjoying listening to at the moment?

Raised Fist’s From The North

What else have you got planned for the rest of the year?

We have a lot of touring booked, after spending so much time in the studio we are so really to hit the road.

While She Sleeps plays Bristol’s Fleece on April 28.
