Actress Allison Janney says she would be “thrilled” to film more episodes of the West Wing.

The seven-Emmy award winner played White House press secretary CJ Cregg in the hit political drama, which ran from 1999 to 2006.

Allison said the political situation in America ahead of the presidential election meant viewers were “wishing” for the return of fictional President Jed Bartlet, played by Martin Sheen.

She told the Press Association: “I love all my compadres from the West Wing. I’ve been seeing them a lot lately. I would love to walk the halls again with them at a fast pace walk and talk. It would be a thrill.

“Here people are looking at the political scene and wishing there was a Jed Bartlet again. I’m with Hillary. I hope she can bring back some sense.”

Allison, 56, won three Emmy awards for her performance in the West Wing, including outstanding supporting actress in a drama series in 2001 and outstanding lead actress in a drama series in 2002 and 2004. She has since won an Emmy for her guest role in Masters Of Sex and another two for playing recovering drug addict Bonnie Plunkett in the comedy series Mom.

The actress briefly reprised her West Wing character CJ when she made a surprise appearance in the White House press briefing room last month to raise awareness about drug addiction.

“It was fantastic,” she said at the Gracie Awards in Los Angeles. “I was so thrilled they asked me to come there. At first I balked at it. I was like, ‘No, no, no, I can’t do that’.

“And then I got talked into it and thought, ‘OK, I can do this’. It was pretty exciting to walk into that press briefing room as CJ and then once I became Allison all my nerves came out.”
