No-one was more excited by Adele’s headline set at Glastonbury than the singer herself as she enthralled the crowd and viewers alike on Saturday night.

The Londoner could barely contain her excitement as, in between effortlessly reeling off the hits that have made her a household name all around the world, she giddily spoke about her own experiences at the festival in an endearing display that included her calling up two young female members of the crowd on stage to take selfies.

The Skyfall singer spoke for long periods between songs – at one point revealing she “had a Chinese and did the dishes” as she watched Muse’s headline set from her home the previous night – as she connected with her audience like no other.

After a divisive week following the Brexit vote, she was a tonic for many Twitter users.

It was not all smooth sailing as Adele had to restart song River Lea because she was out of breath.

She explained to laughter from the audience, “It’s all that dancing, I’m not f****** used to it. I’d rather sing better for you. Also a chance to wipe my sweaty top lip.”

Endearing herself even more to the crowd, she made another slip-up when she sang the wrong section, letting off her trademark throaty cackle in the middle of the solemn hit as well as a strong expletive – another perhaps unwanted feature of her performance.

Hardly anyone cared, however, as she ended her set with Someone Like You before proclaiming “I did it” as she walked from the stage with the crowd still ringing out the hit below her.
