Much-loved couple Alfie and Kat Moon, played by Shane and Jessie Wallace respectively, resolve to leave Albert Square for good and head to Hull after being evicted from their council-owned east London home. But as they move out, Kat’s sister Stacey Branning (Lacey Turner) is shocked to see them leave without saying goodbye.

“The council say they have somewhere for them where they could settle down with a house, but it’s in Hull. They decide they’re going to make a new start of it and Alfie is all up for it, to get away from the Square,” the actor explained to Digital Spy.

“So it’s a new start and a new beginning for Kat and Alfie in Hull, but they try to keep it low-key because Alfie knows Stacey is still pushing him to say something.

“That’s the great thing about EastEnders – they do the research and there are a lot of people and families that have to move out. For Alfie, there’s always a bright side and Hull is not far from the sea,” he added.

It’s been a challenging year for the pair, after Alfie started the fire that left Kat disfigured – and the truth is about to come out.

“Alfie thinks it’ll be okay if he can get Kat away from the Square. They’re constantly reminded about the fire at Number 23 – every time they’re on the Square it’s there and it’s in their face all the time,” Shane said.

The actor teased: “He’s happy to go to Hull, but right at the last minute, something happens and it’s the big reveal. Kat finds out!”

The scenes will air tonight (December 18) on EastEnders at 7.30pm on BBC One.
