A converted heritage building became the setting for world-renowned fingerstyle guitar this month.
Musician Andy Mckee found fame on Youtube a decade ago with the track “Drifting” and has since became an international artist, releasing several studio albums and touring with Prince.

His performance at the newly opened Cardiff arts venue, Tramshed, projected old classics and new compositions to an audience of seated fans. Needless to say the crowd left in complete awe.

The Kansas-born musician transitioned effortlessly between instruments, performing covers of Toto’s Africa, Tears for Fears and several tributes to “major influence” Michael Hedges.

The Youtube hit “Drifting” went down predictably well as Andy delved into classics from his Art of Motion album, peppering humbling anecdotes and stories between tracks.

Despite the expansive 1,000 capacity venue, house technicians used imaginative stage lighting, presenting the one-man guitar show with a sense of intimacy and power.

Support came from Trevor Gordon Hall, who combined creative fingerstyle compositions with the soothing sounds of a kalimba attached to his guitar body.

Mckee’s combination of imagination and ability with a steel string is unparalleled, with each song offering unique soundscapes and intriguingly memorable melodies.

His visit to Wales certainly cemented his stellar reputation as one of the finest acoustic virtuosos and composers touring today.
