CHICAGO, the award winning musical, returned to the Wales Millennium Centre presenting a glimpse of life in the roaring 20s.
The story focuses on selfish, greedy women who have killed their husbands and try to cover up their wrong-doings through lies and fame.
Hayley Tamaddon, as Roxie Hart, despite shooting her husband, was fame-crazy, never lost her nerve and brought a comedy element to the show.
Gina Murray as ‘Mama’, played more of a discreet character but her singing was strong throughout and a real crowd pleaser.
Unfortunately, John Partridge was unable to perform but his replacement, Kerry Spark as Billy Flynn, was a smooth, sophisticated lawyer and didn’t disappoint.
The simplicity of the show is what makes it shine. On stage all you can expect is a band, minimal costumes and a few chairs. Yet it’s this bareness that demonstrates the excellence of the characters and the choreography. The dance and drama is what makes this show a real triumph.
A shout out must be made to the band who play a dominant role in creating the ‘razzle dazzle’ on the night.
Sassy, sexy and feisty – this is one not to miss.
