A DISNEY classic and well known story, the tale of Mulan was portrayed wonderfully by the Newport-based Mini Venture Players.

The young cast played strong characters and their vocal talents were met with a great response from a packed audience.

The show’s scenery was creative and stunning and the elaborate costumes made the performers really stand out, with all members of the cast giving their roles their all.

The show opened with narration from the ancestors (Niamh Cooper, Taryn Meyrick and Megan Brimble), whose chemistry and clear delivery made a great back story to the main event.

The part of Mulan was played by Prisayah Nicholas, who in her first lead role had a strong stage presence, sang well, and was well received by the audience.

Other stand-out performances included the enthusiastic and loveable Joseph Cross as Mushu, Ewan Davies as Shang and the Chinese army made up of Sean Linton, Luca Baldwin and Oliver Meakin, who all worked well together on the stage.

The humorous story was a credit to the young performers, and no doubt they will go on deliver the same enthusiasm in their next production. I look forward to going and watching them perform again soon.
