A CLASSIC tale for children and families, the Newport Pantomime and Musical Society proved pantomimes don’t just belong at Christmas. The half term showing of Jack and the Beanstalk had the desired effect, keeping children up past their bedtimes for an evening of laughter.

Even before the first line had been spoken, the audience were clapping and stamping their feet in anticipation, ready for the introduction to the tale by the frightening Piccalilli (Jess Jones).

The cast put a modern twist on the story, including recent songs to connect with the audience.

The children were involved throughout the performance, especially with the energetic Simon (Nick Brimble) who kept them engaged and having fun.

Jack (Lee-Rose Walsh) made a great lead role, with other strong performances coming from the evil Rancid (Ryan Salter), the lovely Princess Primrose (Heaven-Leigh Richardson) and the young dancers who brightened up the stage with their stunning costumes.

Stand out cast members included Snatchet (Kerry Morgan) and Scarper (Lee James) and Dame Dotty Dimple (Nathan Taylor) whose slapstick comedy and enthusiasm brought life to the story. And with appearances from the giant and Buttermilk the cow, the production is a perfect half term treat for the whole family.
