Former Saturday Kitchen host James Martin made his debut as a guest host on This Morning โ€“ but it seems too many chefs may spoil the broth.

James helped fellow chef Phil Vickery answer viewersโ€™ questions, instructing them how to chop mushrooms, make carbonara and keep Yorkshire puddings fluffy, before resident chef Phil demonstrated how to make a spatchcock roast chicken.

But many viewers thought there was some rivalry in the kitchen.

The pair have worked together before on Ready Steady Cook, with James saying: โ€œThis is really weird, itโ€™s the first time weโ€™ve actually worked together for about 12 years.โ€

Some thought they were a great teamโ€ฆ

But others enjoyed the competitive cookery.

It wasnโ€™t the only part of the programme where James had to step back and watch โ€“ and viewers caught him with a shocked expression on his face when he met a man who cooks using his car engine.

The โ€œcarbecueโ€ concept involves wrapping up your dinner and putting it under the bonnet while you drive, but as he was handed a carbecued camembert, James looked as though he would rather stick to traditional cooking.

One viewer worried about the roadside call-outs:

Phillip Schofield was more convinced:

Saturday Kitchen fans were delighted to see James back on TV, after he quit the morning cookery show a few weeks ago.

There were the inevitable criticsโ€ฆ

But viewers felt it was an impressive debut:
