NEVERLAND is on its way to Christchurch this winter, as the Regent Centre transforms into the magical backdrop for Disney Peter Pan Jr.

Rehearsals are now in full-swing for this timeless tale of eternal youth starring 145 young local performers who successfully auditioned earlier this summer.

Three separate casts will perform a 60-minute musical based on the Disney film and J.M. Barrie’s enchanting play from December 11-15.

And there’s also a grown up message behind Disney Peter Pan Jr. The creative team at Ginger Boy Productions are focused on the value of education.

Providing a supportive and free experience for the cast of performers involved is the brainchild of Dorset-based West End and Broadway star Earl Carpenter.

Earl says: “Even after 25 years in the musical theatre industry, I’m still learning. I firmly believe in the value of the arts in our daily lives, enriching our well-being, education, inclusion as well as being a viable and creative career path that is second to none. For young students embarking on a career in performing arts, it’s absolutely vital to build that core foundation through participation in classes and shows at a young age.”

Director Jacquelyn Ockwell says: “Personally, I am very proud to be part of a production where financial boundaries have no impact, this opportunity is offered freely to every participant, all they need is a willingness to learn and the desire to take part.”

She added: “Being part of Disney Peter Pan Jr will offer young people the very rare opportunity to work alongside a performer who has reached the very top of musical theatre and knowing he is a local boy will be highly inspiring to all involved.”
