COMEDY chaos came to Cross Keys last week as Coleg Gwent’s musical theatre students took part in their first pantomime, Cinderella.

Extended Diploma Musical Theatre students in their first and second years trod the boards on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to bring audiences pantomime favourites including the Ugly Sisters, Fairy Godmother, Buttons and Cinderella.

“Comedy is a huge element of pantomime, and a great new skill for students to develop,” said lecturer Kate Greenaway.

“The production also featured high-energy song and dance performances so there was something for everyone.”

Student Jaimee Colmer, 16, moved to the area from Pembrokeshire to enrol on Coleg Gwent’s musical theatre course.

Jaimee, who has appeared in several TV dramas including ITV’s Doc Martin, played a key comedy role as one of the Ugly Sisters in the production, named Shequanda by the cast.

“Learning about the skills involved in pantomime has been brilliant,” she said.

“I absolutely love being on stage, and this course is the perfect way for me to develop my skills further.”
