Gwent hospice nurses battle to get through to patients

NURSES at St David’s Hospice Care haven’t let the snow get in the way of their duties, with one even taking on three-mile treks to care for a patient.

Jonathan Powell at www.vantageweatherservices.co.uk issued a new weather warning for today and tomorrow:

"Expect a relatively calm day weather wise on Thursday with no further snow anticipated. The development of ice on the roads and a sharp overnight frost into Friday will be the two key areas for the next 24 hours.

"Friday will see a band of rain sweep in from the west, initially falling as snow over higher ground, before turning to rain. The snow at first could generate 1 to 3 inches initially over the hills of Mid and East Wales, potentially worse over higher ground to the eastern side of the UK. For later on Friday, into Saturday, then Sunday, expect heavy rain and gale force winds with localised flooding not just from the rain, but from the thaw that will ensue."

Starting mostly cloudy but it should stay dry with some bright or perhaps sunny spells developing. The best of the brightness in the west. Remaining cold. Maximum Temperature 3 °C.

Tonight:

Soon turning very cold with widespread ice and frost, locally severe under clear skies with some freezing fog. Perhaps a little more cloud in the west later as winds increase. Minimum Temperature -8 °C.

Friday:

Dry and cold with early brightness in the east but freezing fog may linger. Strengthening winds will bring a spell of snow, turning increasingly to rain and sleet. Maximum Temperature 8 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Saturday, becoming less cold but heavy rain and strong winds will spread east later and overnight with a risk of gales. Brighter with showers, some heavy on Sunday and Monday.
