A £600,000 BIG Lottery Fund grant is earmarked to help reduce Wales’ impact on climate change.
The funds are heading to the Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens for a five-year project to support around 250 community food-growing projects.
Katie Jones, development manager for FCFCG’s Welsh programme Tyfu Pobl, said: “This will increase and engage more people in the production of local food in Wales, helping to reduce our impact on the climate and contributing to the creation of more sustainable and resilient communities.“ An estimated 5,000 people, engaged in projects such as community gardens, farms, allotments and orchards, will directly benefit, with additional improvements in wellbeing and healthy eating to many more.
The Community Land Advisory Service project will also see the setting up of 75 new schemes across Wales.
