Aiming to keep rugby Caerphilly rugby fans safe

GWENT Police and Caerphilly council teams will again be out this weekend to make sure people can enjoy the Six Nations rugby safely across the borough.

Officers and the council’s community safety wardens will be out in town centres along with street pastors to deter crime and disorder and help fans stay safe.

Officers have also contacted all licensees in the area to remind them of their role in serving alcohol responsibly.

Licensees are also being encouraged to check their CCTV systems are working correctly.

During the tournament, police and trading standards officers have been visiting licensed premises to check that all door staff are Security Industry Authority approved, the premises are safe and adhering to the licensing conditions.

And fans are also being advised to be extra aware of their possessions including not leaving bags unattended and not taking out more money than they need.

Caerphilly Partnership Inspector Andy Down said: “The Six Nations is a tournament that is widely celebrated and one which we want people to enjoy.

“What we want to remind people is to act responsibly when they are out in local pubs and clubs.

“Rugby weekends include long days of drinking and hopefully celebrating, please think about your behaviour and the consequences of drinking too much on a Saturday day and night.”
