New patients’ physio scheme
6:20pm Tuesday 5th March 2013 in News
PEOPLE in Wales who have a neurological condition should be able to self-refer to physiotherapy services in their area, a new report is recommending.
And all health boards should have a specialist neuro-physiotherapist for people with ABI (acquired brain injury), and multi-disciplinary neurological teams with access to appropriate rehabilitation facilities.
These are among 12 recommendations being made by the Assembly’s Cross Party Group for Neurological Conditions – set up to raise awareness of such conditions – in a report on its inquiry into physiotherapy services for people with such conditions.
The inquiry found that while waiting-times targets are being met, a sizeable minority of patients with neurological conditions are not receiving a service that is generally considered to help recovery from brain injuries.
