CAKE CONTEST: Alex Jones in Ty Coffee, Oakdale
WE HAVE joined forces with Oakdale coffee shop owner Alex Jones to launch a cake baking and decorating competition to help raise money for charity.
And we are appealing to as many of you as possible to take part in the Ty Coffee Cake Contest of Wales so we can raise as much money as possible for Mencap Cymru.
The theme for the cakes is Welsh Valleys and bakers can interpret that however they like, either in the shape, decoration or taste of the cake.
Mrs Jones who opened her coffee shop in December has already been involved in several charity events but was drawn to help Mencap Cymru after a plea from a friend to help out.
She said: “ I enjoy fundraising for charity and I understand that there are a lot of charities where a lot of money is raised, but having a mentally disabled family member I understand the importance off the work of Mencap and feel strongly about the charity.”
We at the Argus were also delighted to be able to get on board.
To enter all you have to do is e-mail Mrs Jones at tycoffeeltd@gmail.com and she will send an entry form.
The competition is open to both adults and children.
There is a £10 fee for adults to enter and just £1 for children with all profits going to the charity. A cash prize will be on offer to the winner.
An event will be held on Sunday, April 14, in Oakdale when a panel of judges will pick the winners.
Normal Argus rules will apply.
