A CAERPHILLY man claimed the voices of personalities such as Simon Cowell and characters from Coronation Street blaring through his home’s wall ruined his life, a court heard.

In a statement read out at Caerphilly Magistrates’ Court, Jonathan Harrold said his neighbour’s loud TV “destroyed me as a person” .

Carol Perry of Pontygwindy Road was ordered to pay a total of £1,127.48p after she was found guilty in her absence of failing to comply with an abatement notice.

Caerphilly council solicitor Susan Eade told the court the local authority first received complaints from Mr Harrold in April 2011 about his neighbour’s TV being too loud.

Letters were sent in May, with an abatement notice given later that month.

After further complaints, Stuart Williams of the environmental health department visited Mr Harrold’s house in August 2012. He said he clearly heard the voices of Britain’s Got Talent judges and characters in Coronation Street through the wall.

In a victim impact statement, Mr Harrold described “18 months of despair and panic. It has caused me anxiety and destroyed me as a person.”

With the case proved in her absence, Perry must pay £600 compensation, £512.48p costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
