A CAERPHILLY hairdresser is celebrating after his Snow White inspired style helped him claim a national hairdressing award.

Richard Kerr, 31, from Trethomas, claimed the top prize in the fantasy section of the British Hairdressing Championships at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens last weekend.

Mr Kerr, who is based at JJ’s Hair on Cardiff Road in Caerphilly, claimed the prize after dolling up his model as a kind of zombie horror version of Disney’s version of the fictional character, including crafting a half metre by half metre tree and an apple out of polystyrene.

Mr Kerr, said: “I won in 2010 but I wasn’t going to do it this year. Then the Friday before I just thought why not, so it was all a bit last minute. That made it a real shock when I won as most people think about their design for the whole year.

“There are five judges and four gave me the full 30/30 score which was amazing.”

And the hairdresser of eleven years already has his thoughts on next year’s competition.

“I would like to do a sugar skull look, sort of half sparkle. Hopefully it will be a bit different,” he laughs.
