Two men have been charged with the murder of a 45-year-old man following an alleged assault in a Newport street.

The men, aged 19 and 46, both from Newport, have today been charged with the murder of Barry Thomas, of Bettws.

The Argus reported how two men were arrested at Strensham service station on the M5 on June 3 following the incident on Methuen Road, Newport, at around 8.35pm on June 2.

The men are in custody and are due to appear at Caerphilly Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Detective Superintendent Paul Griffiths is appealing for any witnesses in the area of Metheun Road, Newport, at 8.35pm on June 2, who have not already been contacted by the police, to make direct contact with Gwent Police by ringing 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
