A DISABLED motorist has blasted Caerphilly council for removing specific disabled parking bays from Caerphilly town centre.
Graham Jones, who suffers from a spinal condition, was shocked after finding the bays on Pentrebane Street and Cardiff Road had been removed.
He said: “They have been there for 20 years.
“There are now 30- minute bays that anyone can park in and it means disabled drivers can’t get in.
“This has altered things dramatically for disabled drivers.”
A spokeswoman for Caerphilly council said that following a public consultation, the authority had decided to change on-street parking in the town centre.
She added: “There will now be a mix of loading bays and 30-minute bays.
“It is hoped this will increase the turnover of vehicles being able to make use of these bays, and in turn make the town even more more accessible for all.”
The spokeswoman also stressed that disabled Blue Badge holders can park in the 30-minute bays without time restriction and dedicated bays will remain at Stockland Street.
