Christopher Parry, the estranged husband of shooting victim Caroline Parry, had shotguns in his home

Officers say they have recovered a small number of firearms held legally by Christopher Parry, 49, from an address in Croesyceiliog, Cwmbran.

The Argus understands that the guns were found at his home address, although this could not be confirmed by police.

Mr Parry's condition at the Royal Gwent Hospital is now improving and stable, although he remains in intensive care, said a spokesman for Aneurin Bevan Health Board.

Gwent Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

This afternoon, Detective Chief Inspector Bill Davies from Gwent Police CID said: "We’ve had an excellent response from the community, and are currently working towards putting together a clearer picture of what happened in the lead up to and the events on Thursday in Seabreeze Avenue."

“However, we continue to appeal for more information from anyone who can enrich that picture, we know that many people were starting their day and may have passed through commuting to work .”

"Christopher Parry, Mrs Parry’s 49 year old husband, remains at the Royal Gwent hospital in Newport. Detectives are continuing to visit and speak with potential witnesses, and Mr Parry will also be spoken to as part of this inquiry should his medical condition improve."

Neighbours found Ms Parry, 46, on the ground next to her estranged husband Christopher after hearing gunshots at around at around 8.45am on Thursday.

The news came on the day that tributes to Ms Parry appeared on the Newport street where she was shot last week.

The detective chief inspector leading the investigation has made an appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

Police said officers investigating the shooting of 46-year-old Ms Parry have recovered a small number of firearms from an address in Croesyceiliog, Cwmbran.

A statement said the firearms were legally held by Mr Parry, the husband of Caroline.

Detective Chief Inspector Bill Davies, who is leading the investigation, said his team had interviewed a large number of witnesses since the incident at Seabreeze Avenue, Newport.

He said: “We remain keen to talk to anyone who was in the area between 8am and 10am and may have witnessed the incident.

“Please ring us on 101 quoting log 97 of 08/08/13. We are also aware that a number of witnesses may be upset or traumatised by what they saw.

“We have produced advice and reassurance in a leaflet which is being distributed by our neighbourhood teams in the area today.

“I am also arranging for this information to be uploaded to our website, www.gwent.police.uk and to our Twitter and Facebook feeds.

“Our family liaison officers are detailed to work with the families involved in this tragedy,” he added.

Friends of mum-of-two Caroline Parry have left flowers and tributes on the Newport street where she was fatally shot, calling her a “beautiful angel.”

Cards and five bunches of flowers have been placed against railings on the corner of Seabreeze Avenue and Willenhall Street, in a quiet housing estate in Liswerry.

In a touching tribute a man signing their name as Garry writes: "To my darling Sweet Caroline, I miss you so much. My darling visit me when you can.

"From your loving Garry.”

Another card from friends said: "To my beautiful lifelong friend Caroline, I will miss you so much.

"Heaven has gained a beautiful angel. You were taken far too soon.

"Until we meet again Car. Lots of love forever, Debbie xxx”.

A further message read: "So happy, happy memories of you Caroline, all the laughs and great times we all had. Will miss you dearly lovely girl xxx”.

One tribute said: "We will miss you so so much Caroline”.

Another added: "So many fantastic memories that can never be taken away. Thanks for all the joy and laughs.

"I hadn’t known you very long, Sweet Caroline, but I will miss you."

Police said yesterday that the suspected gunman, Ms Parry's ex-husband Chris, 49, was in a critical but stable condition at the Royal Gwent Hospital where he was being treated for gunshot wounds.

He had been married to Ms Parry, from Newport, for 27 years and had lived together in Croesyceiliog, Cwmbran, before the couple split.

The police watchdog (IPCC) announced yesterday they would launch an investigation into Gwent Police’s contact with the estranged couple as their relationship problems had been known to police.
