THE head teacher at Lewis School, Pengam, Christopher Parry said he was "ecstatic" about the achievement of his pupils in GCSEs this year.
"At a time when headlines are dominated by the underachievement of boys and the increasing difficulty of achieving top grades in maths and English I am more than happy to be bucking the trend," he said.
"As a result of the huge amount of effort made by pupils and staff it’s been another record breaking year. 80 per cent of pupils have achieved the level 2 threshold (five GCSE’s or equivalent A*-C) and 48.4 per cent of pupils have achieved the Level 2 including English and maths.
"In particular the performance of pupils in maths has been pleasing with 29 pupils having A*-A grades."
Pupils with outstanding results include Corey Lower, Angus Brown, Shahid Ali, Michael Lewis, Rhys Lintern, Joss Evans, Ryan Gough, Joshua Price and Jack Nicholls all of who attained top grades in their chosen subjects.
