FOLLOWING a whirlwind, trans-atlantic romance, Caerphilly Castle was the setting as a Welshman proposed to his American girlfriend.
Owen Mountjoy, who is from Pontypool, got down on one-knee at the venue last Tuesday to propose to Tanya Stevens who is from Cincinnati.
The couple only met 11 months ago when Lloyds TSB worker Mr Mountjoy was in the States visiting friends.
After he returned back to Wales, they have only been able to meet a handful of times, which made him determined to cement their relationship.
As Delta Airlines worker Ms Stevens doesn’t get to see many castles in her homeland, her boyfriend chose one of Wales’ most iconic structures as the setting.
Mr Mountjoy said: “I knew from the outset that Tanya was the girl I wanted to marry. Her most recent visit was going to be our final time together before my planned move to the US, so I knew it was my last chance to make the big gesture without risk of her suspecting anything. “Caerphilly Castle was the perfect location”
Mr Mountjoy said he was so nervous beforehand, he forgot to ask the question, but added: “It’s all a bit of a It’s blur now but somehow Tanya understood and said yes.”
Ms Stevens said: “We don’t really have castles in America. What few we do have aren’t what most people would truly consider as a castle, so having the proposal in a real one was like a fairytale. I already knew that Owen was sweet and thoughtful, but his special, memorable proposal just confirms for me what an amazing man I am going to marry.”
