A BARGOED chemist was judged the town's best-dressed shop ahead of the weekend’s Royal Welsh parade.
The Vida Rogers Pharmacy fought off fierce competition by winning the military-themed ‘Dress your Shop’ contest with their patriotic and creative window display.
Close runners up were Envy, while New Clurv Diner, Funky Bunch, GC Sports and Dippy Hippy were awarded highly commended status.
The ‘Dress your Shop’ competition was held ahead of the parade on Saturday 28th September to honour the 1st Battalion Royal Welsh Regiment.
The contest was judged by Mayor of Caerphilly county borough Cllr Michael Gray and Bargoed Town Mayor Cllr Alan Higgs, who visited Bargoed businesses on Friday 27th September to pick a competition winner.
Mayor of Caerphilly county borough Cllr Michael Gray, said, “The standard of entries was exceptionally high and made picking a winner an extremely difficult task for us as judges. It was lovely to see such community spirit in Bargoed, and the decorated business premises added to a real sense of character ahead of the Freedom parade.”
Bargoed Town Mayor Cllr Alan Higgs, said, “I think every single shop was a potential winner, but Vida Rogers Pharmacy just came out on top. As Mayor of Bargoed I was extremely proud to see the marvellous effort that had gone into the window competition and ensured that the Royal Welsh troops were given a heroes’ welcome. Our businesses have done Bargoed proud.”
Thousands of residents lined the streets of Bargoed to give the Royal Welsh a rousing reception as they marched through the town. Following the parade many supporters stayed behind to explore the new look town, which has been the subject of a £100m regeneration programme, resulting in a good day for trade in Bargoed.
