A CAERPHILLY family have become weight loss stars after losing over 100lb between them.
Alison Bentley, 52, of Ystrad Mynach weight watchers, joined the group along with her partner Martyn Birch, 53, and daughter Olivia Clarke, 16, two years ago, in an attempt to get her fitness back.
But the family didn’t expect to become weight loss ambassadors losing over 100lb by following Weight Watchers healthy eating and exercise plan since May 5, 2011.
Alison Bentley a Nat West customer advisor lost over four stone and three dress sizes, going from 18 stone to just under 14 stone, and a size 24 to 16, and plans to lose another stone by the end of November.
Her partner Mr Birch, a project manager at GE Healthcare also lost over four stone, going from 17 stone to just under 14 stone and a 42” waist to a 34” waist.
While daughter Olivia, went from 13 ½ stone to 11 ½ stone and went from a size 18 to a size ten -12.
“My daughter and I wanted to lose weight because she was struggling to find clothes that fit her and I wanted to lose weight for health reasons,” Miss Bentley said.
“I then persuaded my partner Martyn to join Weight Watchers with us in July 2012 because he used to do triathlons and wanted to get fit again.
“He is now training to do a marathon.”
Miss Bentley and her daughter have also taken up exercise including jogging ad Latino fit classes.
“I think the reason we put on weigh was because of my cooking,” Miss Bentley admitted.
“We both enjoy cooking and love chocolate and crisps so that led to weigh gain.”
Through Weight Watchers the family changed their life style, following a healthy eating diet plan incorporating low fat meat, fruit and vegetables.
“Since losing the weight I feel much more energised and feel a lot happier,” Miss Bentley added.
“We have lost over 100lb between us and we are just one of many success stories.”
Their Weight Watchers leader Louise Jones, has been a leader at Ystrad Mynach Weight Watchers for over a year after losing five stone herself.
The Caerphilly borough Council worker said: “I think they are fantastic and they are an inspiration to people.
“This autumn motto is ‘Together is Bette’ and they are proof of this.
“In my experience most weight loss success comes from attending the meetings every week religiously to weigh in and to contribute to the group sharing hints and tips.
“It is all about healthy eating and sustainable weight loss.
“I tell people to sit less and move more.
“Martyn has gone from doing nothing to raining for a marathon its fantastic.
“You do have to make small compromise's but you don’t have to deprive yourself.”
