A HEATING engineer from Caerphilly is through to the final of a competition to find Britain’s Top Tradesman after being awarded the best in Wales.
Greg Ball, 39, beat off competition from thousands of entrants to be crowned top of the trade in the contest run by trade retailer Screwfix, and secure his place in the UK-wide final.
Mr Ball will now go up against nine other finalists from across the UK at Wembley Stadium on November 5 for the chance to be crowned Britain’s Top Tradesman 2013. The winner will also receive a new £27,000 Toyota PROACE van.
Britain’s Top Tradesman is a nationwide search to find and recognise the best builders, handymen, electricians and plumbers.
Mr Ball said: “I am delighted to have been selected as the winner of Britain’s Top Tradesman in Wales and thrilled to have secured a place in the national final. Fingers crossed the national judges are equally impressed with my work!
“I aim to repair any boiler where possible, as long as it is cost effective for the customer, and believe a good name is key to success for my business,” Mr Ball added.
“I have just taken on my son as an apprentice and am looking forward to taking the business forward with him.”
John Mewett, Marketing Director at Screwfix, said: “It’s the fourth year we have run this competition and once again we’ve been overwhelmed by the response. This year the standard of entries is exceptionally high and I would like to congratulate all of our finalists for getting this far.
“Greg and the rest of our top 10 have demonstrated their willingness to go the extra mile to get the job done and it’s certainly no easy task to pick the winner.”
Mr Ball will be given a behind-the-scenes tour of the stadium as well as meeting last year’s winner, plumber Michael Cairns.
The judging panel includes representatives from Screwfix, the Federation of Master Builders (FMB), the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE) and the electrical trade body NICEIC. The national winner will be announced mid-November.
