Taff –Ely & Rhymney Valley League 1
Nelson Cavaliers 2nds 1 – 2 Talbot Green
THE game started well and James Hurley was pulling the strings early on from midfield, setting up Dean Marshall and Lewis Roberts for chances that were well saved by the Talbot keeper.
Then the Cavaliers slipped up with some shoddy play. Firstly they allowed the Talbot midfield too much space which allowed their striker room to turn and hit a 25 yard drive that the Cavaliers keeper could do nothing about. Talbot then found themselves two up with another well taken goal.
The second half was a different story. Nelson dictated from the off and created wave after wave of attacks.
Nathan Thomas threw himself on up front to try to add some muscle to the attack, this created a bit of panic in the Talbot defence and from a Lewis cross Nicky Rees fires the ball into the top corner.
Welsh Over 45’s League Nelson 1 -2 Continental The game started positively for Nelson with some good play down the flanks.
The Nelson back four seemed in control of the opposition front line but a suspect off-side decision, half way through the first half, put their number 8 in one-on-one with stand-in keeper Doogie and he slotted in at the near post to make it 1-0.
The game seemed to be played in a bad atmosphere.
The second half started in the worst possible fashion as a miss-hit back pass by Bronco was easily intercepted by the opposition number 8 and he went round the keeper to make it 2-0.
A red card for Kev Jones seemed to inspire Nelson and a handball decision in the box resulted in a penalty for Nelson, that Neil Pope smashed home for 1-2.
