Woman dies after Bedwas crash

A MOTORBIKE passenger died yesterday in a crash with a car in Bedwas.

Police have named the victim as Claire Victoria Franklin, a 40 year-old from Caerphilly. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her companion, a 31-year-old man from Caerphilly is currently in a critical condition at the University of Wales Hospital in Cardiff.

The collision, between a red Peugeot 306 estate and the bike happened on on Pandy Road in Bedwas at around 5.15pm.

The driver of the car which collided with the bike, a 33-year-old Abertillery man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs and is currently in custody.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have seen the car or the motorbike before the collision to call Gwent Police on 101 quoting log number 407 23/12/13

It's not nice to hear sad news like this at any time of the year but defo not this time of the year so sad for the family, and still idiots think they can drive once they have had a drink or taken drugs deserves to have the book thrown at him

Motoring offences carry such inadequate penalties in some coumtries the driver would be tried for murder . A charge of manslaughter at least snd a good 10-15yrs would be justice but thst wont happen. For whst they are worth my condolences also

And it was his sister he killed he's my kids father and he's trying to pled not guilty after he fled the scene police only tell u so much my kids have no father as far as I'm concerned I phoned police on 6 occasions to report he had my kids in the car out of his head they assured me they'd catch him and didn't even bother trying to find him this cud have been avoided if police had listened I'm just so glad my kids are safe now
