FRIENDS described Rhys Trimby, the Swffryd man whose body was found on Sunday afternoon, as a “lovely” person.

Mr Trimby, 21, was last seen in Oakdale on the evening of December 20 and had been missing for nine days.

His body was found at approximately 1.45pm in the River Sirhowy at Nine Mile Point estate in Cwmfelinfach, on Sunday.

The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time and Gwent Police say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death.

Blaenau Gwent councillor Lisa Winnett, who represents the Blaina ward and knows the family well, spoke out as she praised the “kind, generous and lovely” Mr Trimby.

“Rhys was a genuine, lovely, honest and polite boy,” she said. “He will be sorely missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

“My heart goes out fully to his mother, family and friends at what is a difficult time for everyone.

“They are a lovely family and I can’t even begin to imagine what they’re going through, it is a great tragedy.”

A Facebook group that was set up to help find Mr Trimby has attracted over 1,500 likes and was inundated with tributes over the past 24 hours as people paid their respects.

Stacey Ratcliff, from Newport, wrote: “Rhys was one of the nicest people I have ever met. I cannot say how sorry I am to hear this news.

“My heart goes out to his family, especially his mother, he was a credit to you.

“He was a lovely, lovely boy. You were blessed to have him. This is so, so sad and I’m so, so sorry for your loss.”

Joshua Price, from Blackwood, said: “RIP trimb! Gutted you’re gone dude. I had some good laughs with you but remember God only takes the best from earth and you were one of them.

“Thoughts are with your family fella, RIP.”

Carys Carpenter wrote: “Such a lovely boy, I am gutted. We always get on well and words can’t explain how gutted I am for his family, friends and girlfriend. Legend of a boy, sleep tight. You’ll never be forgotten and will be missed by loads.”

Joanne Morton said: “Just dreadful, it’s so sad. My deepest sympathies to all his family at this very sad time.”
