A BABY girl from Ystrad Mynach due on Christmas Day turned out to be among the first to be born in Caerphilly in 2014.
Mila Emily Jovetic was born on New Year’s Day at 12.54am weighing 8lb 2oz. Her parents, Suzanne and Christian Jovetic, both 32, missed the fireworks and countdown celebrations because Mrs Jovetic was rushed to Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr around midnight.
Although she was the first to be born that day at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr, baby Mila was not the earliest arrival in the whole of Gwent.
At 12.52am, a couple of minutes before little Mila’s birth, a baby girl born to Rachel Williams, of Cwmcarn, weighing in at 6lb 3oz was one of three babies born at Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny on the first day of the new year.
Mrs Jovetic, who also has a 13-year-old son, Kieran, and 22-month-old son, Xander, said: “We only just made it to the hospital in time. I was shocked that labour was progressing so quickly.
“She was actually due on Christmas Day and it was quite difficult over Christmas because we didn’t know when she would come.
“I wasn’t having any contractions until before midnight.
“I missed all [the New Year celebrations] to be honest – I wasn’t paying attention. Hearing the fireworks was the only way I knew it was past midnight.”
After spending the night in hospital, the trio returned to their home in Forge Mill and have been inundated with well wishes from friends and family.
Mrs Jovetic, whose surname comes from her husband’s Serbian family, added: “It will be great for Mila to look back at this in a few years’ time.
“We are all so happy and thankful.”
Elsewhere, Kelly Fry and her fiancée Aaron Wood, also from Ystrad Mynach, welcomed their third child Kameron, 5lb 10oz, at 5am at the Royal Gwent on New Year’s Day.
