Body found in Cardiff river is missing man

A BODY found in a Cardiff river has been confirmed as that of missing man Ashley Wells, who had links in the Ystrad Mynach area.

South Wales Police confirmed that the body found in the River Taff near Hailey Park, Cardiff, on Tuesday, was that of 26-year-old Mr Wells from Gabalfa, Cardiff.

Formal identification was carried out this afternoon. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

Police had appealed for help in finding Mr Wells who had been missing for more than a week.

Mr Wells was last seen leaving his home address in Gabalfa, Cardiff, at 8.45pm on Sunday, January 5, and was known to have contacts in Ystrad Mynach.

Specialist teams and the police helicopter searched the River Taff, the Taff Trail and wooded areas in Gabalfa and Llandaff as part of efforts to find him.

An inquest into Mr Wells' death will be held in due course.
