THE alarm raised last night in Blackwood after a person was reported to have fallen in a river was false, Gwent Police say.

A spokeswoman said the call appeared to have been made with good intentions, but police and firefighters found no-one in the river.

Firefighters from Cefn Fforest and a specialist boat unit from Ebbw Vale were called to Greenfield Terrace in Argoed near Blackwood at 8.20pm after reports of a person having fallen in river.

The ambulance at the scene did not treat anyone.
