First published in News

THE A469 between New Tredegar and Pontlottyn could remain closed to traffic for the next two weeks following a burst water main.

Technical specialists have assessed the carriageway and advised that the road is not suitable for any vehicles, cyclists or pedestrian use in light of the current conditions.

Engineers will carry out further monitoring over the coming days, but it is anticipated that the road will remain closed for at least the next two weeks to allow monitoring of any further carriageway movement and any urgent repair work that could need to be undertaken.

A Caerphilly council spokesman said it is difficult to estimate at this stage when the road is likely to be partially or fully reopened.

In terms of public transport, there will be significant changes to Monday to Saturday bus services from Monday.

Route 1 Bargoed - Deri - Fochriw - Pontlottyn - Rhymney - Merthyr Tydfil

This service will operate every 30 minutes during the daytime.

No change to Sunday Service

Route 2 Bargoed - New Tredegar - Phillipstown - Pontlottyn - Rhymney - Merthyr Tydfil

Route 3 Bargoed - Brithdir - Pontlottyn - Abertysswg - Rhymney - Prince Charles Hospital - Merthyr Tydfil
