THREE people arrested as part of a murder investigation into the death of Trinant father Ian Davies have been released without charge.

Mr Davies, 27, suffered a “wound to the torso” on the night of January 11 this year and was taken to Newport’s Royal Gwent Hospital where he later died.

The Argus reported in January that a 26-year-old man, a 22-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of murder and released on police bail, but have now been released with no further action, said a spokeswoman for Gwent Police yesterday.

A fourth person, Paul Mapps, 26, of Marshfield Court, Trinant, was arrested on January 12 and has been charged with murder.

Mapps, who is on remand, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court via video link on January 16 and is due to appear for a further court hearing in April.

Mr Davies’ family said he was “a loving father, son, brother, nephew, cousin and a loyal friend to many”.
