A £252,000 BOOST has been announced for new community schemes in Caerphilly county borough.

A range of initiatives, such as maintenance and repair work, planting projects and playgrounds will be funded by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Community Schemes budget for 2014/15.

Members of the council’s cabinet approved the budget for the new financial year at a meeting last week.

From the £252,000, £100,000 will be allocated to the Community Response Team (NCS) to carry out works such as seat repairs, the replacement of vandalised street furniture and hard landscaping.

Elsewhere, urban renewal schemes will receive £20,000, community partnerships will be awarded £35,000, while parks and cemeteries will be given £40,000.

David Poole, cabinet member for Community and Leisure Services, said: “I am pleased that the council has been able to continue its support for the important Community Schemes budget.

“It empowers communities and adds to a sense of local pride in a well kept county borough,” he added.
