  • "At the ripe age of 51, and having smoked from the age of 17, I am about to arrive at my First Year Anniversary of being tobacco cigarette free thanks to using an e-go E Cigarette. A year ago I was breathless from simply climbing a flight of stairs whereas now I am, for the first time in my life, entering a half marathon and am cycling or walking most places I go. My fitness levels are now much better than those younger than myself (as recently tested). I don't for one minute think that using the device is "good" for me but I do think it is much better than the alternative to which I was addicted for many decades. It deeply saddens me that the CCBC and WAG are taking this course of action and denying to others the full potential of using these products to finally give up an expensive and destructive habit. It would be far better for them to restrict their use by the young (as was the case with cigarettes) and encourage people to take a healthier life choice."

A LOCAL authority in Gwent is a step closer to introducing a ban on electronic cigarettes on council premises and in council vehicles.

Banning the use of the so-called ‘e-cigs’ by Caerphilly council employees has moved a step closer after Members of the Caerphilly council’s policy and resources scrutiny committee agreed to amend the council’s long-standing no smoking policy for employees, to include the prohibition of electronic cigarettes.

This will see the use of electronic cigarettes treated in the same way as conventional cigarettes.

The proposed restriction will now go before the council’s cabinet for final approval at a later date.

The move to stop the use of electronic cigarettes on council premises and in council vehicles is in line with the stance being taken by the Welsh government, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and other local authorities.

Councillor Christine Forehead, cabinet member for Human Resources and Governance, said: “This move to strengthen our no smoking policy shows that we are doing all we can to ensure we are providing a healthy, smoke-free work environment for our employees.”
