A GWENT police officer accused of misconduct in public office and sexual assault has denied the charges.
Sgt Richard Owen Evans, 47, of The High Way, New Inn, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court where he denied two counts of misconduct in public office and three counts of sexual assault
The first count of misconduct in public office alleges that while working as a police officer, Evans engaged in sexual activity with a member of the public while on duty.
The second charge of misconduct in public office alleges that while working as a custody officer, Evans engaged in sexual activity with a detainee who was in his care and control.
Evans was bailed until his next court appearance on August 18.
