I too have been using this road for as long as I can remember, and driving accident free for 46 years, it is down to the correct speed for the road, if they cannot read the white central lines which advises us of bends , straights and short straights ,then they should go back to the highway code, nothing to do with lights on or off, it is the speed they travel.
The road has a 60MPH speed limit and is (as you said) so wide its required hatching through the middle. The width encourages it to be used at the speed limit which (in my opinion) is far too high. During one four week period we witnessed three serious accidents. Its no fun hearing the screeching of car brakes followed by a loud bang and often having to help injured parties while we wait for emergency services to arrive. I personally would never drive 60MPH along there as it's too fast. Everyone is entitled to their on opinion though. You obviously know a lot more than I do about it."
