A BLACKWOOD playwright’s work is to be performed to mark the anniversary of the start of the First World War.

The War is Dead Long Live The War by Patrick Jones will be performed today at the Riverfront to mark the centenary of the First World War. The play centres around a meeting between First World War soldier and poet, Wilfred Owen, and a serviceman from a contemporary conflict.

Michael Kelligan, director of the On the Edge production, said: “Patrick’s play is a strong poetic study of the horror of war. Sadly it is even more relevant today than it was when I first presented it, one of the very first On The Edge productions, ten years ago, directed by Welsh award winning director Karl Francis.

“No doubt it will be relevant in ten years time and even more ten years after that.”

Mr Kelligan has directed three of the Mr Jones’ plays.

The play is on tonight at the The Riverfront, at 7.45pm.

Tickets are £4.
