    In a word, yes. What other options are there? Let the bird dangle there until it dies with countless members of the public seeing it? Some may care if they see the bird suffer, some may not. Obviously if a more serious incident arose that required the attendance of the fire crew in question then they would be sent to it - technically known as a 'redirection'. It is also a known phenomena that if the fire service doesn't rescue trapped animals then often untrained members of the public will attempt a rescue sometimes with disastrous consequences - what would you rather Argus?"
