GWENT Police are appealing for information after a man was injured after two people tried to steal his dog in Abercarn.

The attempted robbery happened on the riverbank behind the Prince of Wales Industrial Estate, at around 7.50pm on Thursday 10th July. The area is locally known as "Fish Leaps".

The man was walking along the riverbank with his dog when two men approached him and demanded that he handed over the animal. After a struggle the men made off towards Travis Perkins Builders Merchants.

The victim sustained minor facial and leg injuries and received treatment at the Royal Gwent Hospital. The dog was unharmed.

One of the pair is white, in his mid twenties and around five feet eleven inches tall and of medium build. He had a long slim face with a pronounced chin and dark coloured eyebrows. He spoke with a strong Irish accent and was wearing a dark blue hooded top, black tracksuit bottoms and black trainers.

The other offender is white, in his mid twenties, around five feet nine inches tall and of slim build. He had short dark brown hair which was spiked at the front and stubble. He spoke with a Newport or Cardiff accent and was wearing a white t-shirt, navy tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.
