Fans of Channel 5’s hugely popular children’s TV strand Milkshake! will be thrilled to know that a brand new stage show Milkshake! Live 'Party Party', will be performing at St David’s Hall on Saturday September 27 at 1pm.

This brand new show hosted by Milkshake presenters Derek Moran and Amy Thompson features lots of Milkshake! Friends including Little Princess, Bananas in Pyjamas and Milkshake’s very own Milkshake Monkey!

Milkshake presenter Amy Thompson recently took time out to answer our questions.

Q: Tell us a bit about the new show Milkshake! Party Party?

The show features 2 Milkshake! presenters and a big bunch of favourite Milkshake! characters who are planning a surprise birthday party for Milkshake! monkey! Everyone has their very own, special party job. Expect lots of singing, dancing and a fabulous birthday party!

Q What was your first TV or theatre experience – tell us about that?

My first professional job was on the stage, it's where I'm most comfortable. It's so exciting, the buzz you get from performing live in front of an audience. Presenting live on TV is equally exciting and I love it but you are talking to a camera. You can't see your audience. There's nothing more rewarding for me than experiencing a reaction live as it happens. I enjoy both equally but most performers will tell you theatre is just magical.

Q: Tell us a bit about your childhood – whereabouts did you grow up?

I grew up in Hull. I'm the eldest of 4 girls. We all went to dance school from a young age, but it's me and my youngest sister Ruby who have gone on to become professional performers. My other 2 sisters went down the science route. One is a chemistry teacher and the other a doctor. They were the sensible two! :) I go back to Hull as often as I can, it's an amazing city. I adore it. We are so proud it is to be the City of Culture in 2017.

Q: You must have to start the day early for your Milkshake! presenting role – do you have to go to bed really early to make sure you can manage the early starts?

I really try but I just can't get myself to switch off at 9pm! It doesn't feel right! I usually manage 3 or 4 hours sleep the night before I present live and for me that's enough but believe me I make up for it the next day with a lovely lie in!

Q Does the live show encourage audience participation – what can audiences look forward to on this tour

Our shows are always very interactive, we very much encourage people to get up and dance and sing along with us. Usually, we need the Milkshakers to help us too along the way, whether it's because Toby from Toby’s Travelling Circus needs some help with his magic trick or we can't find Milkshake Monkey, our audience is a huge part of the show's success.

Q: Which characters will be joining you on this tour?

Little Princess, Bananas in Pyjamas, Toby and Dolores from Toby's Travelling Circus, Noddy and Tessie Bear, Milkshake Monkey, Tommy and Tallulah from Tickety Toc, Bello from Jelly Jamm, Chloe from Chloe's Closet and the brand new but already hugely popular Pip from Pip Ahoy! will be joining us on stage this year.

Q: What happens in the show?

The Milkshake! gang are planning a surprise birthday party for Milkshake Monkey. Everyone has their own special party jobs. Expect loads of singing, dancing and fun!

Q: Milkshake! live shows are full of song and dance. What songs will you be singing in this new show?

The show features a great mix of well-known children's songs, nursery rhymes, Bop Box songs, some Milkshake! classics and songs that the grown-ups will love too! Everyone will be up on their feet! It really will be a non-stop party party!

Milkshake takes place at St David’s Hall, Cardiff on September 27. Tickets available online at www.stdavidshallcardiff.co.uk or at the box office on 029 2087 8444.
