A GWENT doctor who forged prescriptions for Viagra because he was too embarrassed to see a GP has been struck-off by a disciplinary panel.

Dr Mansoor Kassim, 37, was convicted in January of two counts of theft, four counts of forgery and three counts of fraud in relation to four presciptions which involved collecting the tablets at pharmacies near his then workplace at Ystrad Fawr Hospital.

The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service panel told Kassim that his fitness to practise was "impaired by reason of your conviction" and that the conviction was so serious as to be "fundamentally incompatible with you continuing to be a registered medical practitioner."

It considered that the "premeditated, opportunistic and prolonged nature of [the] offences does amount to behaviour fundamentally incompatible with being a doctor."

The panel added: "You abused your position of trust at the earliest opportunity by stealing prescription forms a day after beginning your role with ABUHB. Your dishonesty was persistent and the Panel have already concluded that you have shown insight of a limited nature."

Dr Kassim has 28 days to appeal against the decision, his name will be removed from the Medical Register.
