ABERGAVENNY’S Rachel James has won a second gold medal at the British Cycling National Track Championships in Manchester.

James piloted Sophie Thornhill on the tandem to win the para-cycling 200m flying start time trial for blind and visually impaired riders in a factored time of 9.822 seconds on day three.

The double world champions also won para-cycling BVI mixed kilo gold on day one on Wednesday.

Newport Youth Velo teenager Lauren Booth recorded a new British record in the 200m para-cycling time trial with a time of 14.400 seconds.

But the 13-year-old, who won gold on day one in the C1-5 mixed time trial, had to settle for silver this time.

Jaco van Gass from Team Battle Back won with a factored time of 12.314 and Booth took silver in a factored time of 12.485 while Matthew Hamilton took bronze.

And Monmouthshire’s Lewis Oliva won bronze in the men’s keirin behind Callum Skinner and Matt Crampton.

Cardiff’s Elinor Barker was fourth in the women’s pursuit and Ciara Horne, who trains at the Wales National Velodrome in Newport, finished fifth ahead of Paralympic champion Dame Storey in sixth and Olympic champ Dani King in seventh.
