Straight from directing Romeo & Juliet, Rachel O’Riordan’s first Christmas as Artistic Director of Sherman Cymru sees her direct Arabian Nights from 5 December – 3 January, performed by a cast of talented actor-musicians, with quality music and storytelling at the heart of the production.

Known for bringing alive wonderful and magical stories at Christmas for children of all ages, Sherman Theatre’s exciting adaptation of Arabian Nights by Dominic Cooke is a must see.

Arabian Nights will see actor-musicians take on multiple roles in this exciting storytelling feast. Sherman Cymru is thrilled to be working with an exciting cast including Alun Saunders, who audiences may remember as the magical Mr McAlistair in Sherman Cymru’s under 7s show last year, Corina Pavlova and The Lion’s Roar | Corina Pavlova a’r Llew sy’n Rhuo, and The Snow Tiger | Teigr Yr Eira (2012), and Elin Phillips who was in Sherman Cymru’s A Christmas Carol and recently took on the role of Linda in the Welsh tour of TOM, A Story of Tom Jones. Following her highly acclaimed performance in Romeo & Juliet as the Nurse and Lady Montague, Anita Reynolds will be back at the Sherman Theatre for Christmas. Sherman Cymru is delighted to be working with Pete Ashmore and Joanna Hickman for the first time, both of whom appeared in Rachel O’Riordan’s Grimm Tales at the Library Theatre, Manchester, and bringing a strong presence to the stage as the King will be actor Ashley Alymann. The final performer in this story-telling extravaganza is Welsh comedy actor Keiron Self (BBC 1 hit television series My Family) who makes a welcome return to the Sherman Theatre after performing at the theatre in Charlotte’s Web in 1998.

Rachel said: “I am delighted to be bringing a team of talented actor-musicians to the Sherman stage, to delight our audiences with exhilarating live music and dynamic story telling. The Sherman Theatre will share with our audiences a colourful, musical and fun filled production of the dramatic Arabian Nights.”
